What Are Child Braces?
Child braces are a part of two-phase treatment for children who are at least seven years old. The goal of treatment with child braces is to minimize the amount of orthodontic treatment in the teen years, improve oral health, and remedy issues that may become complex in the future.
What Types of Child Braces Are Available?
Dr. Marc S. Wright recommends metal braces for younger children. These types of braces can be customized to your child’s needs, tend to be an affordable option, and are durable.
Are Ceramic Braces and Invisalign® Used for Child Braces?
Ceramic braces and Invisalign® are not recommended for children. Ceramic braces are more likely to break compared to metal braces. Invisalign® typically cannot address the more complex nature of orthodontic treatment in children.
What Are the Benefits of Child Braces?

- Problems biting or chewing food
- Speech issues
- Teeth that are misaligned or crowded

Your child will need some time to adjust to having braces. We encourage parents to make the experience as fun and comfortable as possible. Engage with your child frequently, such as when brushing and flossing. You should also pay close attention to your child for any subtle or obvious signs of discomfort with the braces.
