Invisalign® vs Braces

At Wright Orthodontics, we often explain the similarities and differences between Invisalign® vs. braces to our patients in Atlanta, Marietta, and the surrounding areas of Georgia.

Can the Same Orthodontic Issues Be Treated with Invisalign® vs. Braces?

Invisalign® is appropriate for most patients who have common orthodontic issues, such as a minor underbite or overbite. Braces are typically the best option for:

  • Children as part of two-phase treatment
  • Patients with a history of dental work, such as crowns
  • Advanced cases of improper tooth growth, such as teeth that tip or are rotated
  • Patients at high risk for periodontal disease and cavities
  • Patients who may not comply with wearing the retainers for at least 22 to 24 hours each day

How Comfortable and Easy to Use is Invisalign® vs. Braces?

The clear aligners of the Invisalign® system are very comfortable. They are made of a smooth resin that does not involve the wires and brackets of braces. You may need a few days to adapt to wearing the aligners. After the initial period, you barely notice that you are wearing aligners.

What Are the Treatment Times of Invisalign® vs Braces?

Most treatment plans with braces cover up to two years. With Invisalign®, optimum results are typically seen in 6 to 18 months. Keep in mind, though, that braces are used for more complex orthodontic issues that require longer treatment times. Some patients may wear braces and Invisalign® for the same period.

How Easy is It to Take Care of Invisalign® vs. Braces?

Brushing and flossing your teeth are challenging with braces. You need to learn techniques that allow you to keep your teeth and gums healthy without damaging the braces. With Invisalign®, you simply remove the aligners from your upper and lower teeth and then brush and floss as you do normally. After you are done, replace the aligners over your teeth.

What Foods Can I Eat with Invisalign® vs. Braces?

With Invisalign®, you can eat any foods that you want if you remove the aligners. With braces, you need to avoid sticky, hard, and overly sweet foods during your entire treatment.

What is the Cost of Invisalign® vs. Braces?
