Wright Orthodontics dedicates its efforts to providing retainers to area residents as a way to maintain newly aligned teeth and a beautiful and bright smile.
What is a Retainer?
A retainer is a device worn around teeth once braces are removed to allow the bones to tighten around your newly straightened teeth to ensure they stay in alignment. Your retainer is custom made to fit only your teeth and is essential in the final stages of your treatment.
As a leading Atlanta and Marietta, GA orthodontist, Dr. Wright knows how important retainers are in the process of straightening teeth. Along with his staff, Dr. Wright has successfully educated his orthodontics patients on the importance of retainers.
How Long Will I Have to Wear My Retainer?
The time that you will wear your retainer depends on many variables. Most of Dr. Wright’s patients typically wear their retainers for a couple of years to ensure that the bone structure and gums tighten around your realigned teeth.
Throughout the retention process, you will meet with Dr. Wright to evaluate how the retainer fits so that he can make slight adjustments if necessary. If at any time your retainer is too loose or too tight or you misplace or break it, call our office immediately so Dr. Wright can adjust or replace it.
Are There Different Types of Retainers?
Yes. There are three types of retainers used to maintain the realignment of straightened teeth. The following are the retainers used by Dr. Wright:
Bonded Retainers. Bonded retainers are permanently affixed to the backs of teeth in much the same way braces are on the front of teeth. Dr. Wright typically recommends bonded retainers on the bottom teeth because of issues with bite clearance.
Essix® Retainers. Essix® retainers are the choice if no additional tooth movement is required. Made of clear plastic, they are lightweight, comfortable, and almost invisible. Designed to be removable, Essix® retainers allow patients to maintain proper oral hygiene with brushing and flossing.
Hawley Retainers. Hawley retainers, probably the most well-known type of retainer, are made of an acrylic base that fits snugly in the roof of your mouth and wires that fit securely around your teeth to keep them in their proper position. They are also removable, making it easy to ensure proper brushing and flossing. The base of Hawley retainers is available in a wide array of colors and patterns.
What is the Cost of a Retainer in Atlanta and Marietta, GA?
The cost of a retainer is like the cost of braces – it varies from patient to patient. It depends on the type of treatment you have, the length of time for your orthodontic treatment, and other factors.
Following your free consultation and evaluation, Dr. Wright will be able to answer your questions regarding your treatment including the cost of your retainer.
